How long have you been in business?
I have been in the flower business for 30 years. I worked as a designer in 6 retail Florists, both in New York and Florida.Got my start at age 17 and here I am 30 years later.
What is your primary product or service?
We are a full service retail florist. We make beautiful floral arrangements for many different occasions, including birthday's, anniversaries, Weddings, Sympathy, parties, barmitzvah's, etc
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Funny, I wasn't interseted in this line of work. I had gone to college on and off for 2 years and was bored to death. At age 17 my mother encouraged me to apply to what was then "Flora Plenty". It was a chain of florists in New York, and the main shop was 2 blocks from where I lived. I type very well so I applied for the job of "Floral Order Taker". I got the job and was soon on the phones taking orders. I don't recall too well as I was quickly relieved of my duties after an hour. Apparently my accent was a little too strong for them, lol. And I the shop was in Bayside, Queens, NY. Long story short, I was placed in the design area and became the "Grunt". I did all the things that designers didnt want to do. I dumped garbage, I taped vases, I filled water tubes, I swept, I cleaned. Then one day, Jerry, the old guy, taught me some basics of design. Jerry had 50 years experience at that time and I was interested in learning. We worked together for a year or so until I left that shop to become assistant Mgr of another location. Soon after, my family and I were moving to Florida. We had 6 months or so, and I got a job at another Florist, designing. I had been hired officially as a designer. Upon moving to Florida I held jobs at 4 different Florists until I first purchased Exceptional Flowers & Gifts, in 1992
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We have many things that money cannot buy. We care, we have hearts, we feel. Our flowers convey your emotions to your loved ones. Our Customer service is 2nd to none. Simone, our shops Manager, has over 30 years experience in corporate management, Customer service and people pleasing. She is simply a nice, caring person. We go above and beyond for our customers. We designer with our heart, using some of the finest and freshest flowers available. Since we buy direct from the grower, our flowers are some of the freshest and brightest you will find. We use only the better quality, premium flowers. Stop by sometime, we'd be happy to show you the difference between ordinary flowers and Exceptional Floewrs.
